AXA IM appoints Marcello Arona as CEO of AXA IM UK & AXA IM GS

AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) announces the appointment of Marcello Arona as CEO of AXA IM UK & AXA IM GS1 , effective 1 April 2021 subject to FCA approval.
Based in London, Marcello will be responsible for overseeing AXA IM UK and GS’ operations reporting to Marco Morelli, Executive Chairman, and Godefroy de Colombe, Global COO. He replaces Philippe d’Orgeval who left AXA IM early December 2020.
Marcello has been with AXA IM since 2005 and heading AXA IM Americas since 2017 in addition to the US CFO responsibilities he took on in 2013. Prior to this, Marcello was COO of AXA IM Italy after working for HSBC and PWC.
John Stainsby will remain interim CEO of AXA IM UK & AXA IM GS in addition to his responsibilities as Head of Core Client Group UK until Marcello is appointed.
Godefroy de Colombe, Global COO of AXA IM, said: “Marcello’s knowledge of the company and his previous experience as COO, CFO and Head of AXA IM Americas will be invaluable to ensure our second most important office in size continues to progress, from a business and employee engagement perspective.”
Biography
Marcello joined AXA IM in 2005 as COO of AXA IM Italy. He moved to the US becoming Regional CFO of AXA IM in 2013 and was appointed Head of AXA IM Americas in 2017. He is a Director of AXA IM Inc (US) and Chairman of AXA IM Mexico. Prior to joining AXA IM, Marcello spent five years in the private banking division of HSBC in Italy where he served as CFO and COO. His professional career also includes past roles as Senior Auditor at PWC, in the team dedicated to financial intermediaries. Marcello graduated (cum laude) in Economics at Universita’ di Pavia in Italy.
